There's More Going On Than You Think
The idea was repulsive.
In the ancient world, gods were beings who stood apart from humanity. You worshiped them through symbols and images that represented their existence. The very idea of a god becoming a human (not just appearing to humans) was a radical idea.
But it was exactly what early Christians claimed Jesus did.
So the Word became human and made his home among us. (John 1:14, NLT)
The prophet, Isaiah, once spoke of a coming anointed king who frees Israel from her captors.
Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. (Isaiah 7:24, ESV)
That name–Immanuel–is a Hebrew word meaning “God with us.” Not God above us, not God pushing us, not God under us. God with us means God in partnership with us.
As you try to see your way through uncertain times, you don’t need to take the journey alone. You have a partner, a friend, and a power that is the very source of all the universe. Your story isn’t over. No one’s had the last word over your life. You are not alone.
